Summer Meeting Dates 2019

During the summer season Coventry Branch members will be meeting at the training apiary on the 3rd Sunday in the month.   Which for 2019 is May 19th, June 16th, July 21st and August 18th.

We meet at 3pm and the prime purpose will be to do a routine inspection of the colonies in the training apiary.

Experienced Beekeepers will be there to lead the inspections and also to answer any questions that members may have.

This meeting is an informal affair and a chance for members to meet socially.  Refreshments are available. People can come to chat, there is no onus on taking part in the inspections.

Visitors are welcome to attend; however, it must be stressed that they do so at their own risk.  The hives will be opened for inspections and there will be bees flying around the site, so there is a chance of being stung. However, there is a safe viewing position from the veranda of the branch hut.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible Adult, this applies to both members of Coventry Branch and Visitors to the apiary.

Weekly Inspections of the Hives

For swarm control and routine management of the bees the Colonies need to be inspected every week.  This will, weather permitting, take place on each Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

At least one experienced Beekeeper will be present to lead the inspection and take responsibility for the session.

This is a good chance for the less experienced beekeepers to gain experience of handling bees.

We are looking for Volunteers from among members of the Branch to be added to the rota of these weekly inspections, if you want to take part in this please contact me on this email address: - cbka.membership@hotmail.co.uk
